We’re Now Sunflower Friendly
Making the Invisible Visible
We Are a Sunflower Friendly Centre
Mambourin Marketplace is committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for all our visitors. We are proud to be recognised as a Sunflower Friendly shopping centre, supporting individuals with hidden disabilities to shop with confidence.
What is the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower?
The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a simple yet effective way for people with non-visible disabilities to discreetly indicate that they may need extra support, understanding, or a little more time. By wearing a Sunflower lanyard or pin, customers can signal to our staff that they might require assistance, helping us create a more accommodating environment for everyone.
How It Works
- Pick Up – Customers can collect a free Sunflower lanyard or pin from Centre Management without needing to provide proof of disability.
- Signal – Wearing the Sunflower lets our trained staff know that the person may need additional support.
- Support – Our team members, identifiable by their white Sunflower pins, are here to assist with any needs, such as guiding you to quieter spaces or providing sensory-friendly experiences.
Where to Find Support
- Our office is located at the end of the corridor between Sarmandoz Barbers and Smokin' Joes and is open Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Feel free to visit us to collect a Sunflower lanyard or pin.
- Staff Assistance: Look for staff members wearing white Sunflower pins—they have completed Sunflower training and are available to assist you.
Coles Quiet Hour
Our Coles store at Mambourin Marketplace also supports a more inclusive shopping experience by offering Quiet Hour every weekday from 6:00pm - 7:00pm.
During this time, sensory-friendly adjustments include:
- Reduced noise: Coles Radio is turned down, and the volume on registers and scanners is lowered to the minimum level.
- Dimmed lights: The lighting in the store is reduced.
- Limited announcements: The PA system is used only for emergencies.
- Increased support: Extra staff members are available to help customers.
- Trolley and roll cage removal: In some stores, trolleys and roll cages may be removed from the shop floor to further reduce noise and clutter.
This initiative helps create a calmer, more comfortable shopping experience for customers who prefer a quieter environment.
